Hugh Jones Solicitors at The Social Work Show

27 October 2023

Earlier this month, we attended The Social Work Show, where we were honoured to share our expertise with social workers and local authorities from across the region.

The show was held on 2 October at the Hilton Deansgate, Manchester and is well-established as the leading event for all social workers, from newly qualified to senior practitioners, as well as commissioners and service providers.

This event brings together those who work in the voluntary and private sectors, independent practitioners and local authority staff. It was launched with the objective of giving social workers the opportunity to congregate, network, learn and share.

Hugh Jones Solicitors experts – Chris Gallagher, David Jones and Jill Rushton – delivered two seminars. The first focused on the role of a Property and Affairs Deputy in a client’s care and support arrangements. During the talk, Chris Gallagher explored the duties of this particular type of Deputy, the decisions they’re responsible for making and limitations on their involvement with a client’s affairs. Later in the day, Jill Rushton spoke about the Court of Protection, deputyship referrals, appointments and costs.

Both sessions were well-attended and encouraged interesting discussions following the talks with a number of audience members.

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing a series of blogs aimed at educating and busting myths around a variety of themes relating to the Court of Protection and deputyships.
